Odour control in Cereals industry

The Cereals Industry

Put very simply, (breakfast) cereals are produced using thermal processing techniques (puffing and extrusion). In addition to the desired product, however, the thermal processing of cereal grains produces undesirable by-products such as strong odours, which can cause problems for those living in the area and invariably lead to complaints.

The odours from cereal production processes can be efficiently removed using an Aerox®-Injector unit placed at the end of a production line, just before the process air is exhausted from the factory. A typical example is a German cereals manufacturer.

Cereal Manufacturer

They have used an Aerox®-Injector for odour abatement since 2000. It is a first-generation injector that still performs its task to the full satisfaction of all concerned. This fact was recently illustrated when this company contracted Aerox to contribute to the construction of its second cereals production line in 2009. However, floor space was tight and the unit had to be very compact.

Fortunately, since the installation of the first unit, Aerox had further developed its Injector technology and was able to deliver a more compact and, no less importantly, more efficient Aerox®-Injector. This second, new Injector measures just 600x1600x700mm and has been installed vertically to further reduce the amount of space it takes up.

Besides being compact, the new unit installed does its job at a capacity of just 3kW, significantly reducing power consumption related to the client’s odour abatement efforts.

And on the basis of the successful results at this factory, two other companies in the cereals industry in Germany placed orders for Aerox®-Injectors in 2009!
