The Fish Feed Industry
Fish feed is generally produced on extrusion lines and produces quite strong odours that can be detected up to several kilometres away.
A well-known fish feed manufacturer in Japan some years ago installed chemical scrubbers to treat 60,000m3/h of exhaust air from two production lines. Nevertheless, local complaints about odours continued and the company was still unable to meet local odour emission regulations.
Aerox was called in to help and initially advised comprehensive testing involving an Aerox mini-tester and olfactometric measurements by an independent assessment company. The results were unequivocal: A single Aerox®-Injector installed downstream of each scrubber would increase overall odour reduction rates by over 95% and thereby surpass legal requirements.
Notice the size of the scrubber in the left picture comparison with the Aerox®-Injector.

One Aerox®-Injector was installed in 2008. It operates at either 20 or 40 kW and the company now fulfils Japanese odour emissions requirements. Just as importantly, the number of odour related complaints has been significantly reduced.
In addition, the amount of chemicals consumed by the scrubber in question has also been significantly reduced, benefitting both the factory workforce and the environment in general.
Needless to say, the client is very happy indeed and plans are on the drawing board for the installation of a second Aerox®-Injector downstream of the second scrubber at the site.
