The Rubber Tyre Production Industry
Both synthetic and natural rubbers are used for the production of tyres, and processing these produces a significant odour problem.
Mitas is a rubber tyre producer with a factory in Prague. The plant was built on the edge of the city by Michelin in the 1930s. It has since grown, but so has Prague, and the factory now stands in the middle of a built up area. Neighbours living in tall apartment buildings at a distance of 500 metres have quite justifiably complained incessantly for years.
Between 2000 and 2005, Mitas tested various odour reduction technologies, none of which yielded satisfactory results. During 2005, the company invited Aerox to perform trials at the site using the Aerox mini-tester. An independent local assessment company determined that the results of these trials showed that Aerox technology had by far outperformed the other technologies that had been tested in the years previously. In fact, they proved that Aerox technology could remove more than 85% of the odour.
Fast Work
Based on these results, Aerox designed two Injector units for the two rubber mixing lines in Prague. Mitas duly organised a meeting in November 2005, so that the technology could be presented to local neighbours and city and environmental authorities. Even the Mayor attended!
Two weeks later, Mitas and Aerox signed the contract and within the first three months of 2006, Mitas had happy neighbours.
